Switchable PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) film, often called “Smart Film,” is a dynamic material that changes from opaque to transparent when an electric current is applied. It is primarily used to provide on-demand privacy for glass surfaces in offices, homes, and healthcare facilities.

Key Features and Functionality
Privacy on Demand: The film appears frosted (opaque) when powered off because liquid crystal molecules are scattered. When powered on, these molecules align, allowing light to pass through and making the glass clear.
Protection: It typically blocks up to 99% of UV rays and 90% of infrared (IR) light, protecting skin and preventing furniture from fading.
Versatile Control: Can be operated via remote control, wall switches, smartphone apps, or integrated into smart home systems.
Projection Screen: In its opaque state, the film can serve as a high-quality rear-projection screen for home theaters or office presentations.
Energy Efficiency: Consumes very little power, typically less than 5W per square meter when active

Types of PDLC Film
Type Best Use Case Installation
Self-Adhesive Film Retrofitting existing glass. Peel-and-stick application.
Non-Adhesive Film New construction or manufacturing. Sandwiched between two glass panels (Laminated).
