What is SPD Film ?
SPD film, or Suspended Particle Device film, is a type of smart glass technology material. It consists of microscopic particles that are suspended in a liquid or polymer film. When power on, these particles align themselves in a particular direction, causing the glass to change from clear to opaque. This technology allows for high performance glazing that can replace traditional shading solutions, as it can block up to 99% of light. It has various applications, including automotive and architectural dimmable glass applications. The switching speed is up to 3 seconds, and the haze can be as low as 2.5% depending on the post-processing and the manufacturer. It also has the added benefit of providing UV shielding and infrared blocking properties when combines with other technologies like PDLC.
How to use SPD Film to make SPD Glass ?
Using SPD film to make smart glass involves several steps. Here is a simplified process:
Preparation:
Clean the glass surfaces that will receive the SPD film. To ensure that there are no dust particles or other impurities that could interfere with the film application process.
Film Application:
The SPD film carefully applies to one of the glass surfaces. It’s important to make sure that the film is evenly and without bubbles for the best performance.
Curing:
Once the film applies, it needs to curve This process can involve heat and/or UV light, depending on the specific SPD film.
Electrical Wiring:
SPD Film has wires on the edge. These wires will carry the electrical charge that changes the alignment of the particles in the film, allowing the glass to switch from transparent to opaque.
Sealing and Final Assembly:
Glass structure is Flat glass +EVA+SPD Film+EVA+Float Glass . The edges are sealed to protect the film and wiring from environmental factors.
Please note that this is a simplified explanation. The actual process is much more complex and requires specialized equipment and expertise. If you need more detailed information, I would recommend consulting with a professional or a trusted source.
